Computed Tomography Department
General characteristics
Computed tomography is one of the most modern, high-tech, high-quality, efficient and reliable radiological diagnostic techniques. It is based on obtaining transverse "slices" of the patient's body with and its computed reconstructions. A modern CT scanner available in the department of CT has a high speed and resolution of the scan, improved visualization of vascular structures and the possibility of three-dimensional reconstruction.
With the help of computed tomography it is possible to discover pathology in the brain, chest and abdomen, retroperitoneum and pelvis, vessels, ENT organs, bones, joint, spine and others.
To increase the accuracy of diagnostics, in case of necessity, the CT procedure is conducted with intravenous contrasting. CT diagnostic method is very effective for detection of benign and malignant tumors of various organs even the smallest sizes, to clarify their nature, prevalence, vascularisation etc.
Computed tomography is carried out according to clinical indications.
There are no absolute contraindications for CT-scan procedure. The relative contraindications are mainly regards to the contrast agent:
- Allergic diseases (especially bronchial asthma);
- Allergic reaction to the iodine solution;
- Severe heart disease and heart failure;
- Myeloma, polycythemia, pheochromocytoma;
- Kidney diseases, especially due to diabetes;
- Pregnancy;
Indications for performance of the:
Brain’s CT-scan:
- Suspicion to acute intracranial hemorrhage (of traumatic and non-traumatic genesis);
- Acute ischemic stroke
- Acute subarachnoid hemorrhage;
- Suspicion to arterial-venous aneurysm;
- Suspicion to primary, secondary or residual brain tumor and its membranes;
- Abnormalities of brain development in children;
- Inflammation of brain (abscess, granuloma and etc.);
- In case of hearing problems and suspicion to acoustic neuroma;
- In presence of symptoms of intracranial hypertension;
- Inflammatory diseases of brain (abscess, granuloma, empyema, etc.) and assessment of performed treatment;
- For diagnostics of degenerative brain disease.
CT scan of the orbits
- volumetric formations of orbits in cranio-orbital area;
- exophthalmos of uncertain etiology
- traumatic injuries
CT scan of facial crania
- inflammatory diseases of paranasal sinuses
- tumors of paranasal sinuses
- traumatic injuries
- planning of procedure of tooth implants
CT scan of the chest (lungs, mediastinum);
- Disseminated processes in the lungs;
- Suspicion to the primary tumor in the lungs;
- Detection of the hidden metastases to the lungs and pleura in patients with the malignant tumor;
- Suspicion to the tumor of the pleura on the base of X-ray examination
- Estimation of the lungs condition in case of massive pleural exudation
- Disease of lymphatic system and probability of involvement of lymphatic nodes
CT of abdomen:
- Suspicion to the traumatic rapture, bleeding;
- Liver diseases;
- Fatty hepatosis and hemochromatosis;
- Suspected pancreatic diseases (tumors, cysts)
- Primary and secondary tumor in abdomen;
- Differential diagnostics of free and encysted effusion in abdomen;
- Aneurysm of abdominal aorta;
- Suspicion to the tumor of retroperitoneal space;
- Retroperitoneal abscess, hematoma;
- Pathology of retroperitoneal lymphatic nodes caused by hemoblastosis;
- Metastasis to the retroperitoneal lymphatic nodes;
- Suspicion to the kidney tumor;
- In case of kidney dysfunction diagnosis based on X-ray radionuclide study;
- Kidney injury;
- Urolithiasis;
- Neoplasm of pelvic area;

Patient preparation for CT scan
For the head, neck, thorax CT scan usually there is no need for special preparation of the patient.
For the CT scan of abdomen and small pelvis the preliminary preparation of the patient is necessary.
To increase the diagnostics accuracy of CT scan it could be necessary the intravenous injection of contrast agents.
SIEMENS Healthineers SOMATOM go. UP from worldwide known Siemens company performs the most complex radiological researches thus allowing to broaden clinical range.Introducing groundbreaking CT products and services for decades, Siemens Healthineers is known as the innovation leader. By reducing repetitive workflow steps, GO technologies help standardize and simplify all processes.Unlike the previous generation tomographs, this new device gives a super-accurate image of the disease, diagnosing diseases at an earlier stages.
* SOMATOM go.Up provides new opportunities, with entirely new technologies, new style and design.* SOMATOM go.Up features a line-up of innovative solutions that bring an unparalleled level of flexibility and mobility to daily CT routines.
SOMATOM go.Up has a patient table with scannable range up to 160 cm that can hold up to 170 kg for bariatric patients. Multi-function table is equipped with newly designed accessories.
Computed Tomography Department serves more than 40 people per day with various pathologies.
On first place come patients with acute cerebral circulation disturbance and polytraumas. Then - the patients with oncological and inflammatory diseases.
- CT-scan of the brain in patient with acute cerebral circulation disturbance
- CT of patients with poly-traumas
- CT- angiography with bolus contrasting
