Emergency Clinical Residency Program

14.04.2025

For the first time in Armenia, physicians have obtained qualification as emergency medicine specialists.

As a result of collaboration between the National Institute of Health and the Yale School of Medicine (Connecticut, USA), an 18-month clinical residency program has been successfully completed. The program was implemented through the dedicated efforts of our compatriot Sharon Anoush Chekijian, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine.

The program launched on September 1, 2023, and was attended by specialists from emergency and ambulance services of both public and private medical centers in Yerevan and the regions of Armenia. In-depth training across 13 selected disciplines, combined with the experience and expertise shared by international colleagues, will contribute to improving the quality of emergency medical care in Armenia and setting a new professional benchmark in the field.

The program will support the establishment of a fundamentally new, internationally accepted model of emergency medical care in Armenia.

During these months, Armine Sanamyan, Head of the Emergency Medical Care Department at Erebuni Medical Center, together with other specialists of the service, worked closely alongside the training program, actively collaborating with participants of the Yale-affiliated Armenian Emergency and Acute Care Clinical Residency Program and hosting them at the Emergency Medical Care Department of Erebuni Medical Center. This service stands out nationwide for its structure, workflow, equipment, and integrated systems.

Designed and built under the vision of Professor Harutyun Kushkyan, Founder of Erebuni Medical Center, the Emergency Service has one core and unwavering mission: the patient’s best interest—to act decisively, respond rapidly, and save lives.
