On 19 of April 2014 at the Erebouni Medical Center Armenian specialists were able to get familiar with the experience of the largest in northern Europe specialized clinic "Coxa" in procedure of implantation of artificial joints in bone defect cases.
On this occasion, we had a discuss with the head of the clinic of traumatology and orthopedics, and Deputy Director for Research of the Medical Centre "Erebouni" Armen Charchyan.
– Mr. Charchyan who was your guest and what issues was devoted to a workshop?
– By the invitation of our clinic the leading specialist Neyminen York of well-known "Coxa" clinic (Tampere, Finland) has two-day visit to Armenia. He is specialized in the installation of artificial joints in various bone defects. In the "Coxa" clinic about 3000 of artificial joints implantation per year and more than 700 revision surgery of previously implanted and destroyed joints per year are conducted. For large bone defects, caused by a fracture in results of cancer, bullet wound or other reason the artificial joint implantation is performed.
The specialist from Finland has presented two reports:
1. "Peculiarities of surgery, tactics of treatment, endoprosthetics in malignant tumors".
2. "Replacing the previously implanted artificial joints by new".
– The new method of surgery had been presented on seminar. Tell us about it in more detail.
– The last achievement in the sphere of orthopedics as polyethylene mesh with which enveloping the endoprosthesis was presented to Armenian specialists. These mesh by its structure it similar to the one that is used for abdominal hernia surgery and it shaped like a stocking. In contrast to the prosthesis the polyethylene mesh allows the tissue invaginate into the net, thereby strengthening the bond of tissue with endoprosthesis. Personally for me it was a revelation. Prior to that, on such a surgery I had read only in the Internet. But the specialists from Finland showed exclusive examples of carried out by them surgery.
