Today 7 more children started hearing!
Today 7 children got the opportunity to hear. After performing cochlear implant surgery in ENT Department of ErebouniMC a month ago, a speech processor was also connected, as a result of which children for the first time heard the voices of the outside world.
In Armenian it`s been 10 years since children with hearing loss get the opportunity to hear and speak. A unique surgery – cochlear implantation has been performed in MC Erebouni since 2004. In severe bilateral hearing loss and deafness, cochlear implantation is the only way to hear sounds. The program in Armenia is implemented by the specialists of ENT Department of MC Erebouni together with professor of University of California (UCLA) Akira Ishiyama. The partner is the Armenian International Medical Fund headed by SalbiAgarakyan. It is with the assistance of this fund that it becomes possible to purchase expensive implants.
Since 2004, only through this intervention more than 100 children are already hear and speak. To performsuch kind of surgeries, a serious specialized team and technical capabilities are needed. All performed surgeries are exclusively have positive results.
When a speech processor wasturned on in MC Erebouni, RA Minister of HealthcareArsenTorosyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Jun Yamada and others were also present.
