The service also provides spirometry, a test used to assess external respiratory function. This examination evaluates lung volumes and capacity, as well as the elastic properties and airway patency during forced expiration.
Spirometry is widely used both for the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). It is also an important diagnostic method for detecting the reversibility of bronchial obstruction through bronchodilator testing. In addition, spirometry enables the early detection of cardiopulmonary diseases.
Indications for spirometry include: chronic cough, shortness of breath at rest or during physical exertion, wheezing, allergic and vasomotor rhinitis, obesity, occupational exposure to harmful substances (such as paint fumes, dust, etc.), chest deformities and diseases, and preoperative assessment of surgical risk.
