At Erebuni Medical Center, an internationally renowned cardiologist and innovator, Senior Consultant at the Humanitas Clinical and Research Hospital in Milan, Dr. Professor Antonio Colombo, was welcomed by Mikael Manukyan, Chief Executive Officer of Erebuni Medical Center.
The distinguished Italian physician arrived in Armenia at the invitation of his longtime friend and compatriot, Academician Bagrat Alekyan, to take part in the first international gathering of cardiologists to be held in Yerevan. In addition to participating in the “First International Two-Day Course in Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine,” initiated by Hamlet Hayrapetyan, Head of the Cardiology Center at Erebuni Medical Center, Advisor to the Minister of Health on Cardiology, President of the Armenian Association of Cardiologists, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and Professor, Antonio Colombo—recognized as a pioneer of coronary artery stenting in Europe and worldwide—accepted his Armenian colleague’s invitation to perform procedures at Erebuni Medical Center.
Before entering the operating theater, Professor Colombo was pleasantly surprised to see his friend’s name on the sign reading “Academician Bagrat Gegham Alekyan Angiography Center.”
Mikael Manukyan, Chief Executive Officer of Erebuni Medical Center, presented Antonio Colombo with the Center’s medical services, technical capabilities, and equipment, and introduced him to the leading specialists.
Thus, in the operating theater, Antonio Colombo worked together with Meruzhan Saghatelyan, Head of the Angiographic Service.
Using a thin catheter, a drug-coated balloon is advanced into the coronary artery.
