Implantation of cardioverter-defibrillators for the prevention of sudden cardiac death has been widely practiced since the 1990s. Mihran Martirosyan, Head of the Arrhythmology Department of the Cardiology Center at Erebuni Medical Center, performed a cardioverter-defibrillator implantation, once again interrupting a potentially life-threatening arrhythmia in this patient.
The life-saving devices used during these procedures continue to be improved year by year. Today, the Arrhythmology Department utilizes implants manufactured by leading companies, which also serve as one of the key safeguards against sudden death in patients with heart failure.
Following these interventions, patients require regular follow-up visits to the medical center for ongoing monitoring of the implanted devices. The subcutaneously implanted device, connected to the heart via electrodes, is periodically checked using a special programming system here at Erebuni Medical Center.
The new generation of implants, equipped with advanced functions, not only enhance safety but also significantly improve patients’ quality of life.
