Erebuni Neuroimmunology

02.05.2025

April 2025, Yerevan

As a result of another collaboration between the Academician Suren Avdalbekyan National Institute of Health and Erebuni Medical Center, neurologists from Armenia, Canada, Germany, and Italy came together. Over the course of two days, both in person and via remote participation, they discussed immune-mediated diseases of the nervous system, with a particular focus on multiple sclerosis. Although this condition is relatively less common among neurological disorders, it is considered a severe disease, is most often diagnosed in young adults, and can lead to disability.

Once again, Professor Michael Skone, from the University of Alberta (Canada), a close friend of Erebuni Medical Center and our compatriot, is in Yerevan. He has made a significant contribution to the implementation of the national stroke program and remains committed to the continuous development of neurology in Armenia. Through cooperation with the Academician Suren Avdalbekyan National Institute of Health, he consistently shares his Canadian experience with Armenian neurologists.

The conference also features strong participation from the University of Alberta delegation, led by Professor Penny Smith, Head of the Multiple Sclerosis Program.

Claudio Gasperini, visiting Armenia for the first time, arrived from Rome. He is Head of the Neurology Department at Camillo Forlanini Hospital, holds a doctorate in medical sciences, and also lectures at Sapienza University of Rome. In Italy, Claudio Gasperini coordinates the neuroimmunology program and is confident that substantial collaboration will be established with Armenian colleagues.

This represents the first, yet significant step toward the development of neuroimmunology in Armenia.

As a national leader in both diagnosis and treatment, Erebuni Medical Center consistently initiates and implements large-scale programs aimed at protecting and improving public health.
