The number of patients with oncological diseases is increasing continuously in all over the world. It holds second place after cardiovascular diseases by its morbidity and mortality.The most common methods of treatment for cancer are surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Through this approach, it becomes a real the victory over this disease.The Department of Chemotherapy recently had been created at Erebouni MC under the management of Dr. Haykuhi Gekchyan-Kzhdryan (MD, PhD, Chief chemotherapist at MH RA).The department carried out the chemotherapy and target-therapy in accordance with the guidelines and evidence-based medicine (ESMO, NCCN). The diagnostics is performed on the base on endoscopy, radiation, radiology, immuno-histo-chemical and genetic tests, as well as biopsies and others. Particularly important place holds the accompanying therapeutic measures that focused on prevention, mitigation and treatment of complications arising as side effect of conducted chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is carried out by infusion pumps, regulating the amount and speed of administered drug. In case of necessity for long-term therapy course a port-a-cath is placed. This gives access to the central venous system and the ability to distribute the drug throughout the body without repeated peripheral intravenous injection.
